Raven Street Church-Gettin' Real
"Ask of Me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance..." Ps 2:8

Raven Ministries deeply values the role f the local Church and understands its necessary position in the life of any sincere, growing believer in Christ. Raven is a ministry that truly endeavors to operate in cooperation and unity with local churches and ministries.

Our founder, Pastor Troy Bohn, himself a long time pastor and church planter, has sought to instill in all of those involved with Raven Int'l the necessity of taking the new convert from their initial conversion experience to a place of maturity in Christ Jesus.

Raven Street Church is a facet of the ministry that seeks to "bridge" the new believer into a local church body where they can then get "plugged into" a family of believers. Often times, this require us to set up temporary "street churches" under tents, in homes or even open air to provide a pivitol pathway for people  to get connected to local churches and pastors.

In some areas and communities, there may not be a Bible believing church in the immediate area to direct the new convert to, or the person may not be "ready" to make the jump from their situation to the sometimes sterile enviroment of the local church. Our desire and mission is to walk the new believer through the process of salvation, deliverance, and growth that they may become a functioning part of the Body.

Rather than just "invite" a person to "come to church" we instead "take the church" to them when necessary. This provides an accessible place of worship, the opportunity for the person to understand "body ministry" and serve to bridge them to a local church family and pastor for their continued discipleship.

Our Raven Street Churches may spring up in a ghetto, a sandy beach, or a neighborhood park--but wherever they arise--their pupose is to become a spiritual triage unit that provides the initial "emergency" care to those in desperate spiritual conditions.

FAITHFULNESS

Jesus said in Matthew 24:45-46 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household...Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.”

Our first foundational principle is FAITHFULNESS, or becoming “full” of faith.

We believe that faith is an action word. It is not only something that defines who the believer is, but it is also what the believer does.

The word “faith” comes from the Greek word pistis, which is defined as “the moral conviction of the truthfulness of God, especially reliance upon Christ for salvation.

This conviction and this reliance is the very basis for everything that we do and believe.

True, Biblical faith is realized through a two-fold process of hearing and doing. Just as a parent instructs their children through a process of instruction and example, so has our heavenly Father given us the same paradigm or model to imitate.

This model of faith or faithfulness is demonstrated by the example set forth by his very Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. As “Christian” believers, ministers and churches we have been given a blueprint as to how to reach our world with the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Regardless of how things might appear to be or even how things might look to us in the natural; there is always something more real than what we see and that is what He has said!

This faith, or being convicted or deeply passionate about the Word of God and your relationship with Jesus Christ, will serve to carry you through those times and experiences that may not always be easy or particularly pleasant in the natural.

Romans 1:17 tells us that “The just shall live by faith.”

Our very existence or being is predicated upon living a faithful or faith-filled life. We are to “walk by faith, not by sight.”

2 Corinthians 5:7

Romans 10:17 says that, “...faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

There is no source of faith apart from the Word of God!

You cannot get faith from:

Joining a particular church or denomination

Being a good and moral person

Trying hard to be religious

FAITH (fulness) is only realized through a relationship with the Lord Jesus that includes hearing, knowing and doing what the Bible has instructed.

There are three main perspectives that an individual can be influenced by: The World’s, Self, God’s.

The “world’s” perspective or view of things should never dictate your decision making process. Romans 12:2 tells us to never “be imitators of the world’s image (or ways).”

The “self-perspective” should only be imitated when it lines up with the Word of God. Not every good idea is a God idea!

The perspective that we strive to achieve is:

The “God-Perspective.”

This is accomplish through a meticulous and determined dependence and adherence to that which is taught and demonstrated in scripture. (Acts 17:11, 2 Tim 2:15)

We are committed to know the Lord Jesus through:

Seeking His Face-

Knowing His Word-

Following His Example-

Preaching His Kingdom-

We are “devoted” to Him and “trust” Him in all that He has said and done and desire to be consistent in both our hearing and doing of these things. James 1:22

INTEGRITY

1 Corinthians 1:10 “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”

In ancient times, it was said of a fortress if it was impregnable or without a way in, that it had integrity. If there was a hole in the wall or a weakness in which the enemy could enter– then it lacked integrity.

Our second foundational principle is  INTEGRITY, or to be whole or undivided.

Integrity is something that must be realized both on an individual basis and on the corporate level in a Church Family.

In Colossians 2:6-8 Paul instructs us by saying,

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”

We believe that our lives must follow this example of being rooted (that deals with having a firm foundation), built up (this is spending time with Jesus daily) and strengthened (or continued discipleship and obedience).

When these things are done in our lives on an individual basis, then there is a strength and power that is realized and experienced on a corporate level as well.

There is no integrity apart from Biblical unity. I say, “Biblical Unity” because it does not mean that everyone agrees on everything– but that we walk in the truth of Matthew 22:19, “love your neighbor as yourself.”

When you love someone, even if there are small differences of opinion on things, your desire is always to “follow peace with all men and holiness” (Heb 12:14) and this love exhibits the characteristic described to us in 1 Corinthians chapter 13.

Integrity also is seen when everyone realizes that they are crucial to the whole body and that they have a part in what God’s plan is. No one is expendable to Jesus!

“There are many parts, but one body...there should be no division in the body...you are the Body of Christ and each one of you is apart of it.” 1 Cor 12:20, 25,27

Our mission is to see the Body of Christ (the Church) function like the one He established in the Book of Acts.

Jesus is soon to return and He is returning for a Church “with spot or wrinkle.” (Ephesians 5:27) In other words, He expects the Church that He returns for to look like the one that He left two thousand years ago! THAT church was a church of power, holiness, unity, faith, and integrity!

Acts 2:44-47 describes that type of Church:

“Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

RELEVANCE

Paul the Apostle says in 1 Corinthians 9:20-22, “...to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law...that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”

Our third foundational principle is RELEVANCE, or putting yourself in another man’s world.

The Apostle Paul, trained from his youth as a devout Jew, knew best the necessity of this principle. Because God had given him the task of evangelizing the Gentile nations, much of what he had learned would not be relative to those whom he was now being sent to reach for Christ.

This new challenge demanded Paul to “become all things to all men, that by all means (some might be saved).” In order for the Gospel message and the hope of salvation to reach the ends of the earth, he had to first understand and become a part of their lives.

Jesus Himself was the first to provide us this example in Philippians 2:7 it says that, “(He) made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”

Paul, just as our Lord Jesus had done, put himself in another man’s world, so that he could most effectively introduce them to a new world or way of living.

We believe that the method of being relevant (or understanding the needs of the people) is clearly revealed throughout the Word of God and demonstrated in the Great Commission.

Relevance is only found or achieved when we “Go into all the world” as He has called us to go.

Many in the Church have attempted to express “relevance” to the world by making the church more palatable or “friendly” to unbelievers. This is not the Biblical pattern.

The Biblical pattern is in “going” to where the lost, hurting, and desperate are and letting our “light shine before men that they might see our good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

This is not done in the church, but instead out in the world or in the marketplace where the real need is. The church or place of meeting is where the standard of holiness, truth, and righteousness is established and maintained for those who will come. (Matthew 22:2-13)

Our mission is to “take the life-changing Gospel of the Cross” to a desperate world and to provide them a place to come and see what transformed lives look like!

This is accomplished through going out into the “highways and hedges” (or to where people are living, hurting and dying), and ministering the message of salvation to them. More people should be coming to Christ in the streets than in the building!

We believe “relevance” is being willing to go “get your hands dirty” so that someone else may be able to get “their hearts clean” through a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ!

EXPECTANCY

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,  says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil,

to give you an expected end.”

Having traveled and preached in many different cities and churches in this nation has given me the opportunity to discover that there is a critical element absent in most places of worship: expectancy.

Our forth foundational principle is EXPECTANCY, which is the birthplace for the supernatural and the birthright of every born again person of destiny!

When a person comes to a relationship with God through faith in His son, Jesus– there are three immediate changes that take place in the individuals life:

  • There is a change of identity - you cease to be who you once were and are now a brand new person in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  •

  • There is a change in responsibility– you are now obligated by this new identity to walk in obedience to the things prescribed in God’s Word.
  •

  • Then there is a change of destiny– that is, you have now entered into a prescribed course or direction to bring you to that place of realizing God’s plan for your life.
  •

We believe that we should walk in great expectancy in relationship to the promises and pathways that God has revealed to us by the Holy Spirit and His Word (The Bible).

Because He is “no respector of persons” or does not show favoritism (Acts 10:34), that each of us were called, transformed and created to see and do “great exploits” for the Kingdom of God! (Daniel 11:32)

Because the Word of God has declared in Isaiah 53:5:

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”

We should be “expectant” of the things that He has bought and paid for us with His very own life!

When I repent and ask the Lord Jesus to forgive me– I can expect to be forgiven (1 John 1:9)

When I seek Him for my freedom and deliverance– I can expect to be set free (John 8:36)

When I struggle in my mind– I can expect Him to renew my thoughts (Romans 12:2)

When I am sick and afflicted in my body– I can expect Him to heal me (Matthew 8:16)

We serve a God who is both the “author and the finisher of our faith” and who has made it known that “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it…” (Phil 1:6)

Expect God to use you for His glory. Expect people to get saved when you witness to them. Expect God to provide for you when you are faithful. Expect to find Him when you seek Him. Expect Him to bless and bring increase to the Church.
